Compensation for Neck and Back Work Injuries

Under the workers compensation laws, work-related injuries for back conditions are considered Body As A Whole ("BAW") or Man as a Whole ("MAW") injuries.  In Missouri, injured workers can receive up to 400 weeks of compensation for these injuries.  In Illinois, which uses the MAW terminology, a back injury may be compensated up to 500 weeks.  The level of disability, typically expressed in terms of a percentage, is used to determine the compensation.  Injuries such as herniated disks may result in significant settlements.
