Accutance and GI Problems
First introducted in 1982, Accutane (isotretinoin) is a prescription medication used to treat acne. Generic names for accutance include Sotret, Claravis and Amnesteem, Roaccutane, Oratane, Accure and Isohexal.
In 2009, a study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology noted an increased risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease ("IBD") and isotretinoin when 62 of 85 cases reported to the FDA found Accutane was the probable cause of gastrointestinal problems.
